COLOR RUN!
This run was AH-MAZING. This trip to San Francisco was amazing too. Basically, this entire weekend was incredible and I’m sad to be home and folding laundry.
The Color Run totes itself as the happiest 5k in the planet… and it really is. It was a party, start to finish. What I loved so much about this race was the diversity of the people there - from wagons, wheelchairs, young, old; it really was all encompassing. People were very diverse in their whites and it was fun to see what people did with the confines of the “white shirt” rule.
Surprisingly, San Francisco can be COLD in July. What? I was caught off guard… even though Jessica (my adorable pregnant SF bestie) told me about layering clothes more than once. As such, we spent the morning before we picked up our race packets at Gap Body getting leggings and then picking up the shorts later on (at Target, naturally).
Packet pickup was very easy and quick. This run was hosted at Candlestick Park, which is where the 49ers play. It was around the outside of the stadium and it was a nice little route, complete with some of those famous SF hills. ;) Honestly, we did a run/walk throughout the course and still finished in about 40 minutes so I’m not sure that it was a complete 3.1 but who cares, right?
The start was in waves and it was a bit chilly waiting there but we were entertained by a DJ. The start was called for 8am and I’d say we got underway at 8:30. Totally understandable because they have volunteers in the color areas spraying the runners with the colors. There probably could have been more volunteers in each station. If you didn’t get directly hit by the color, it didn’t really stick on you (it’s a cornstarch based powder). People were stopping to ROLL in the powder on the ground so you needed to be extra careful in the stations so you didn’t step on them.
So yes, this run was definitely NOT for the “serious business” runners but there was a lot of high fives, smiles, and fabulous fun!
9 races down, 3 more until I hit my 12 in 2012 mark.
PS - Do you like Cam’s mustache? I laugh every time I look at the pictures. She’s ridic.
